We headed out from Lunenberg and Alyson wanted to take the scenic route and see Peggy’s Cove on the way. Lunenberg is about an hour from Halifax if you take the highway. We left Lunenberg at 11:00 a.m. and arrived in Halifax at 3:00 p.m. Scenic enough for ya?
It happened to be the foggiest day of the summer. We could barely see past the lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove. We could tell it was on the ocean because we could hear the waves crashing.
As we left Peggy’s Cove, the rain started lashing down, with the windshield wipers on full, I could only drive at 60 kph. And we had another four hours to Cape Breton after Halifax. Did I mention we stopped at every sign that said “Quilts”?
The boys slept most of the way and we headed up the province to Cape Breton. We told our friends, Rodger and Lynn Cuzner we should be arriving by supper time. We had supper just outside of New Glasgow and arrived in Sydney at about 10:00 p.m. I got Rodger on the phone to get directions to the cabin on the Mira and he talked me through the back roads of the area and we arrived at the cabin at about 10:30 p.m. Just in time to watch the Eskimos game. But, the t.v. didn’t have TSN.
We hit the sack and hoped for better weather in the morning.
